All STC teams must adhere to lightning detection alarms and tornado warnings/alarms and policies.
Lightning Detection
When a lightning warning system activates or lightning is observed, play should be immediately suspended and all players, coaches and spectators should immediately vacate to a safer location (cars, buildings, etc. --not under pavilions, rain canopies, in dugouts or anywhere at the fields). Play may resume when the lightning warning system activates the “all clear” (3 short blasts) or 30-minutes after the last lightning is witnessed at fields with no detection systems. Any subsequent lightning after the beginning of the 30-minute count will reset the clock and another 30-minute count should begin.
Lightning Warning Systems are located at:
1 long blast ---seek shelter
3 short blasts--all clear
Tornado Watches/Warnings
All tornado watches as issued by the National Weather Service should be monitored and fields should be vacated immediately if changed to a warning and/or the tornado sirens alarm.
Heat/Humidity & Cold
St Charles in house teams Rookie through Minor adhere to the below rules for heat/humidity and cold. Our Major & Pony teams follow the Fox Valley Baseball League determination and/or policy for heat/humidity and cold, and our travel teams follow the rules for the league they are playing in. WSBL weather determination and/or policy here (letter H).
Heat and Humidity
Cold
No game or practice is to begin if the “feels like temperature” is below 43 degrees. Tournament and travel teams playing in another league or in a tournament shall follow the weather rules and guidelines of the specific league or tournament.
**St Charles Baseball will communicate weather and field condition related cancellations/communication up until 3:30PM (when/if they can be made by then). After that, coaches should make and communicate weather cancellations to their teams and in collaboration with opposing coaches based on the above weather policies and in the best interest of the safety of players (email contact@stcbaseball.com as soon as you are aware you need to cancel an umpire).**
ALWAYS CHECK THE SPORTS ENGINE APP AND "CHATS" BEFORE HEADING TO THE FIELD FOR UPDATES.
